obama backs up his claim that either one of them will create 12 million jobs in four years. that is 3 million jobs a year or 250,000 jobs a month. we got 114. at 3% economic growth, there is not an economist in this country who thinks it will be higher than 3% in 2013, 3% in 2014 and 3% in 2015. what does mitt romney think of that? >> i don't know if he's going to get 12. i'm not a romney surrogate. i'm not in the campaign. i've never talked to the campaign. i had nothing to do with the romney -- i just believed this number should not determine the outcome of the presidential election. did you see today -- >> i agree with you. jack, you're a hero. you're a hero to businesspeople in this country. you're a hero to all sorts of people. let's just do it right now and you c you can go back to what you say. you did not cook the books, did you? >> i should have put a question mark behind it. >> so you believe it would have been seen as more of a provocative statement. >> there would have been a better statement. there's no question. i put a question mark. look at my tweet last night, ali. go

-american president. we know everything there is to know about president obama and the idea that they feel they can bring a five-year-old video out at this point and make a difference in the election shows two things. first it shows desperation. i think that everybody sort of is in the business of finding secret videos they hope will damn the other candidate. i think it also says they know there's a segment of america that is going to sort of be rejolted and reenergized by the fact that they are reminding them of this association with jeremiah wright. that's problematic in itself because jeremiah wright is a great man for anybody who studies his history and what he's done for this country, both as a veteran and as a civil rights leader but that's beside the point. the point is that this tape, for the most part, is much ado about nothing. but the republican sometimes can be pretty good at making something out of nothing. so it will be interesting to see how people react. >> gloria, what do you make of it? >> i just think that if you are disposed not to like president obama and you think that jeremia

's been running around the country for the last year promising $5 trillion in tax cuts that favor the wealthy. the fellow onstage last night said he didn't know anything about that. >> it was a much different president obama out on the campaign trail today than we saw on that stage last night. but it was al gore who probably takes the prize for spin. he kind of blamed president obama's performance in denver to the fact that it took place in denver, the mile high city. he blames the thin air. he did it sort of jokingly but nevertheless. with more on that tonight in the "ridiculist." 8 joining us from the campaign trail, jim acosta with the romney campaign and jessica yellin is in madison, wisconsin with the obama campaign. are the obama campaign at least off the record admitting it was not a good night for the president, putting it mildly. we've heard a lot of spin. do they believe that spin? >> they will say on the record it was not a good night for the president, yes. they say they will adjust going forward. here's one way they will adjust, i think. you know, the president's bigg

's vice presidential debate comes on the heels of president obama's poor showing in denver, which puts more pressure obviously on joe biden to do well. we will have more on that in a moment with our political panel. four years ago, vice president biden of course debated sarah palin but he will be facing a much different opponent this time around. take a look. >> nice to meet you. can i call you joe? >> it started with a warm handshake and smiles all around. fra a friendly start to the vice presidential debate in 2008, pitting joe biden against relative newcomer to national stage, alaska governor sarah palin. >> john mccain said at 9:00 in the morning that the fundamentals of the economy were strong. 11:00 that same day, two mondays ago, john mccain said that we have an economic crisis. >> we're tired of the old politics as usual and that's why, with all due respect, i do respect your years in the u.s. senate, but i think americans are craving something new and different. >> biden was on his best behavior, carefully aiming his attacks at her running mate, john mccain, not at palin hims
